Enclosure air conditioning

In electric control cabinets the correct service temperature guaranties great reliability and long service-life of all built-in electronic components.

At the time of electromechanical control systems an aerating grid was in most cases sufficient to evacuate the heat produced by electric cabinets. However, not only air, but also dust passed through these grids, which acted as a thermal insulator possibly leading to overheating of the electronic components and to their short- or midterm failure. Today, machine tools are controlled by modern, increasingly compact and powerful electronic circuits. This leads to an increase in the dissipated power in the cabinets, on one hand, and to an  increased sensitivity of the electronic components to temperature, to dust and to ambient humidity.

Installation disruptions cause production losses and generate important costs. Such disruptions must be avoided by achieving a steady and stable temperature distribution in the control cabinet. A correct temperature in the cabinet is the first condition for guarantying the long service life for the electronic components. This temperature, between 30° and 50° C, depends on the components placed in the cabinet. The cabinet designer as well as the electronics engineer will have to bear in mind the thermal aspect in relation with the future use of the cabinet.
