Bladder accumulators with well defined bladder fillings of silicon particles and no gas represent an innovation. This OLAER patented solution solves all gas leakage problems due to permeation. This maintenance free accumulator has been specially developed for damping water hammer in supply conduits of marine engines where high temperatures quickly lead to gas precharge pressure losses in gas-filled accumulators. The ratio between gas precharge pressure and the maximum operating pressure will be exceeded, which will reduce the accumulator operating life. As opposed to the gas-filled accumulators, this new design allows complete emptying of the bladder. Only a small force acts on the bladder protection (here a sieve), which results from the elasticity of the silicon particles. Silicone-filled accumulators for other applications where maintenance free operation is requested are in development.
